The best day of the year for me, is always the last. New Years Eve always turns out to be wonderful because every year (for the most part) has been spent surrounded by some of the most kind, supportive, fun-loving people I know. The day is spent preparing for a very active evening ahead of us. The evening revolves around food, impromtu musical performances, and board games. Sure, there are the awkward spots, but that's just when we decided to start making up our own games (place the parents in a line from oldest to youngest), pull out the accordion, or sing Sound of Music songs.
2010 marks history for attempting two different events on the eve of the new year: party and concert. The party is where the young and old will gather together to feast on this years best snacks and the classic ones (Lisa Hickman's sausage starts, YUM). Come concert time all the young, and some of the young at heart, will pile into a carpool of sorts and journey to Club D, where Maywood will be playing.
I'd have to say bringing in 2011 was an absolute blessing. I spent time dancing my butt off to Just Dance 2 with the girls, played Apples to Apples, and ate wonderful snacks. After dancing Morgan, Shannon, and I set out for Club D where we brought in the New Year with Maywood. Club D was full of friendly faces and it was great to see all the band members and bring in the new year with them. They really are like family. I feel like the new year really started off right. I then dropped off the girls and went to meet friends at the Ihop. I embarrassed myself by going to the wrong one first, but I got there eventually.
I finally have decided on a couple resolutions... so here are my 7, as always.
1. Not drink a single pop. This shouldn't be that hard for me because I don't normally like it, but I need to really just cut it out and not drink it when I get tired of water.
2. Dream a little. Sounds silly, but I'm not a dreamer. I've never been one. I need to start imagining some possibilities and just let myself believe in ridiculous outcomes for a moment at a time.
3. Sing more. I want to do something with my voice. I'm not sure what it'll look like, but I'd really like to use my voice more.
4. Blog better, more often and things that are actually important to me.
5. Take more photos. I want to look back someday and laugh at my outfits and hairstyles. I want to remember the ridiculous amount of blessings I have and cherish them on all the rainy days to come.
6. Find something I enjoy, and do it. I need to stop being a people pleaser, and this is the year to start that.
7. Be a little less of a pansy. In 2010 I stood at the top of a mountain, let's see where 2011 takes me.
