My answer

I'm currently enrolled in a Spiritual Formations class and these two topics have been eating at me all day. So, word vomit here I come. These are basically exactly from our lectures, but maybe I need to type them out for my own ability to learn and retain knowledge.
Topic: Discipline doesn't make a good Christian, and neither does putting on a good face. Although those are two things the church seems to focus on.
Discipline's Myth : Maybe if I read the Bible more. Maybe if I just open it up once more a week, then I'll be a better Christian.
Isn't the answer Jesus makes us a better Christian. It's not about doing all the right things in the right order and fitting everything in. Jesus isn't on a calendar, He's a little bigger than that box. He's supposed to live in us, not in our pocketbooks. What happened to that Jesus?
The Face Myth : Maybe if I just say "I'm fine" people will believe me every Sunday morning. Maybe if I say "everything's good" people won't ask me what I really think about this last week.
Isn't truth the real answer that we avoid. How refreshing is it to know what our brothers and sisters in Christ struggle with. Don't our struggles unite us? Do we not bond stronger when faced with pressing issues? We don't have to pretend that our lives are easy just because we're a follower of Christ. If anything shouldn't our faith force us to overcome persistent persecution?
-I want to know when these myths became routine conversations. I want to know what Jesus thinks about the way we see Him. I know I continually put him in boxes, and that He continually breaks out of them.
Current Box: My major.
Answer: Maybe I'll let Him decide this one, rather than let myself think that I am capable of actually choosing.
