Discovering Vinyl

So, I've had vinyl records and a turntable for years. It was my dad's in high school.
It's scratched up and in the most beautifully tacky 70's style. The records are old and used, but they were my parents and I will keep them even when they get scratched up.

Spending part of the weekend with Skyler has opened my eyes to the beauty of wonderful music on vinyl. It sounds different. You can see the music moving. It's not like an MP3 that you can just plug in and become oblivious to. The turntable takes up space, you have to move the needle. It lets you see the music move.

Yesterday we went to two record stores in Old Market. The first, being on of Sky's favorite. The second, a shanty-like store that smelled of smoke and definitely looked like illegal activities took place in it. In both stores we rummaged through old and new albums, running into a lot of Billy Joel.

In conclusion:
Vinyl is different. I'm interested. Time for me to clean up my old turntable, and pull out the albums.
Maybe I'll invest in a couple new albums as well... (Mumford & Sons, Adele, The Civil Wars)
